SPECIALIZATIONS

Individual Therapy
Therapy can assist an individual to both eliminate debilitating psychological symptoms and to grow and mature more deeply into self-acceptance and self-understanding. The later form of therapy is a commitment to a longer-term process that allows healing and change to occur within the individual and their interpersonal context. An individual can shed old defenses, heal unadressed injuries and losses, and shift hurtful interpersonal relationships, which allows for new psychological growth and expanded life energies. I approach this form of therapy from the perspective of family of origin work, grieving and integrating old losses and injuries, accessing and integrating repressed emotions, learning self-care and taking deeper responsibility for one’s life. Often many forms of therapeutic practices are utilized in this process depending upon the psychological blocks and needs of each individual.

Integration of Psychotherapy with Alternative Healing Modalities
Utilization of alternative healing modalities from mind/body practices, energy psychology, body-based therapies and process work is integrated into and augment’s the therapeutic process based on the client’s particular problem and stage of personal growth.

Eating Disorders
I have worked as a therapist providing individual, group and family therapy in two of the nation’s primary eating disorder treatment programs- The Renfrew Center and The Rader Institute. My approach to treating anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder and compulsive overeating is highly individualized based upon the utilization and application of best and evidence based practices from a variety of therapeutic modalities. The treatment plan is developed with consideration for each client’s particular treatment history and presentation of other diagnosis such as depression and anxiety and personality structure. The treatment of anorexia and bulimia in adolescents is treated with the Maudsley Method approach which is a family systems based treatment intervention and has been shown to be the most effective treatment for adolescents.

Treatment of Depression and Anxiety from an Holistic Approach
I specialize in assisting individuals to either wean off of anti-depressant and anti-anxiety medication (under the care of the treating psychiatrist) and/or use depression and anxiety as a change agent, substituting both herbal remedies and alternative healing practices.

Depression
The treatment of depression is approached by utilizing both the traditional therapeutic approach which has been combining medication with psychotherapy, as well as the utilization of alternative healing modalities and practices. Utilization of natural and herbal treatment remedies are applied as well as working with depression as a change agent. Weaning off of long-term anti-depressant medication, which inhibits a person’s potential for deeper personal healing and psychological integration, and substituting appropriate therapeutic practices and alternative natural remedies is a specialization of Ms. Fuchs-Morton.

Anxiety
The treatment of anxiety is approached from the same perspective as the treatment of depression.

Couples Counseling
Marital discord is not uncommon, actually it occurs at various developmental stages within many marriages. Paying close attention to the family of origin factors that strongly shape marriages, the developmental stage of the marriage and finding avenues to address resentments and areas of unfairness through the process of hearing and considering each other’s side is essential to couples counseling.

Compulsive Eating, Obesity and Longstanding Weight Problems
Both individual and group therapy is offered. The approach combines eating disorder treatment, addictions work, holistic health care and family systems therapy. A comprehensive therapeutic program “Families and Food” is a holistic weight loss approach based on the latest research about obesity and longstanding weight problems.
The program consists of three phases of weekly psychoeducational groups teaching you both how to lose weight and maintain weight loss.

Adjustment Issues Post Bariatric Surgery
In order for bariatric surgery to succeed an individual needs to address the psychological changes that go along with a bariatric surgery intervention. Learning weight management techniques and making changes in other significant personal and interpersonal areas of one’s life has been shown to be the basis of success for bariatric surgery.

Adolescence and Families
Adolescent behavioral and attitudinal problems are treated from a family therapy perspective, meaning that the therapist acts as a facilitator assisting the family to explore how to increase trust in their relationships and engage supportive practices (behavioral and attitudinal) to address the problems at hand.

Addictions Treatment and Therapy for Individuals and Couples in Recovery from an Addiction
Evaluation, referral and treatment for both process addictions (food, sex, shopping, gambling) and substance abuse and dependency. Specializing in later stage individual growth and change in the recovery process including treatment of trauma and family of origin work.

Spiritual Development
Broad knowledge of spiritual traditions and practices with an understanding of the intersection between psychological and spiritual growth assisting individuals to both explore and find deeper commitment and application of their personal faith and spiritual practices. Assisting individuals to integrate their spirituality more fully into their lives and exploration of questions related to faith and spiritual development.

Menopausal Change
Menopausal change is often challenging and difficult, yet offers a unique opportunity for growth and change. As hormonal changes occur the emotional center of the brain often brings back unresolved trauma and emotional pain. Assisting women with psychological transitions and growth as well as utilization of natural and holistic remedies that support change of life symptoms.

Adult Children of Narcissistic Parents
Often individuals with one or two narcissistic parents struggle for many years of their lives with low self-esteem and feelings of emptiness and inadequacy. Coming to understand, accept and learn how to deal with oneself and the parents is essential for healing and growth.

Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia
